The feel
Shelby Township is a spread-out, well-kept Macomb County community built around families, newer neighborhoods, and everyday convenience. It offers more house and yard for the money than many Oakland County suburbs, with parks, the Stony Creek Metropark nearby, and quick access to shopping along the M-59 corridor. It's also home base for me, so it's an area I know street by street.
Housing & prices
Housing skews newer than much of Metro Detroit — think colonials and ranches in planned subdivisions, along with some larger-lot and semi-rural parcels toward the north. Condos and newer attached homes are available for buyers who want less maintenance. Prices vary by subdivision, age, and lot, so comparing similar nearby sales matters.
Schools & families
Much of the township is served by Utica Community Schools, one of the larger, well-regarded districts in the area, with parts near other boundaries — always confirm the exact school assignment for a specific address.
Getting around
M-53 (Van Dyke) and M-59 (Hall Road) anchor the commute, with quick connections toward Utica, Rochester Hills, Troy, and Auburn Hills. It's a car-oriented area, so location relative to your commute is worth weighing.
Who it fits
Families and move-up buyers who want newer homes, more space, and strong value — and don't mind trading a walkable downtown for room to grow.
